The Beginning
January 1, 1863 , President Abraham Lincoln declaired to end
slavery in the rebellious states which were the southern states. The civil war
was starting to take place around this time . The civil war, however, was a war
with the purpose of restoring the Union, not to end slavery. Lincoln thought
freeing slaves would help him reach his goals to save the Union. This lead to
the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Although it did not free all slaves, it helped the cause of the civil war and was one step closer to end slavery perminantly.
